  • Nam Truong Nguyen, MD, DrPH

    Dr. Nam Nguyen graduated from Hanoi Medical University in 1995 as an Epidemiologist. In 2003, he received his Master of Public Health in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University, New York, where he continued on to earn a Doctor of Public Health degree in Sociomedical Sciences in 2007.  Dr. Nguyen’s research interests include, but are not limited to: HIV/AIDs, sexual and reproductive health, gender and sexuality, communicable diseases, non-communicable disease (NCDs), tobacco cessation, behavior change communication, and monitoring and evaluation.  He has served as Principal (PI) or Co-Investigator for more than 30 large-scale quantitative and qualitative studies. He has substantial experience in conducting large scale surveys, and he is an expert in data management and data analysis with the complex datasets. Dr. Nam is fluent in English and has strong English writing skills. He is very familiar with the health care system in Viet Nam. Dr. Nam oversees the Survey Center, Training Center, Center for Health and Nutrition and Administration & Finance Division at ISMS.

  • Thu Dai Bui, MD, MSc

    Dr. Thu Bui earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Hanoi Medical University in 1989.  He went on to receive a Master of Science degree in Public Health and Nutrition from the University of Indonesia in Jakarta in 1997. Dr. Thu has over 20 years of experience in program planning and management in Vietnam, with particular expertise in monitoring and evaluation. He also specializes in policy analysis, proposal development and training. Some of the areas his research and projects have focused on include population and development, reproductive health, aging, nutrition and health system development. Dr. Thu is fluent in English and has strong English writing skills. Dr. Bui oversees the Social Protection Research Department, M&E and Policy Department at ISMS.

  • Minh Duc Nguyen, MD, MPH

    Dr. Minh Nguyen received his Doctor of Medicine degree at Hanoi Medical University in 1995 and a Master of Public Health degree in Nutrition from the University of Washington in Seattle in 2005. Dr. Nguyen specializes in nutritional epidemiology and development of IEC materials related to nutrition. His other interests involve aging and behavioral research. He has considerable experience in planning and implementing large-scale quantitative studies as well as monitoring and evaluation. Dr. Nguyen involves in nutrition conducted by the Institute.

  • Associate Professor Long Thanh Giang, MPP, PhD

    In 2008, Associate Professor Long Giang earned a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Japan. He is also an Affiliate Research Fellow of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, University of Oxford. He has a long history of conducting public policy and social protection research in Vietnam. His research interests are wide-ranging and include: the economics of aging, pension reforms, and intergenerational transfers; poverty alleviation and income inequality; labor, migration and remittances; human development, education access and equity; health care, health planning and health economics; M&E, impact evaluation and costing for policy intervention programs. Dr. Giang collaborates with ISMS researchers on studies and projects related to social protection, health economics, and health policy. He oversees all ISMS projects related to social protection.

  • Trang Thi Nguyen, MSc

    Ms. Trang Nguyen has a Bachelor of Public Health from Hanoi School of Public Health and a Master of Development Economics from The Vietnam - Netherlands Master's Programme, National Economics University, Vietnam. She has gained technical expertise in data management for both quantitative and qualitative studies. In addition to data management, her strengths include site monitoring, project management. She is Vice Director of Survey Center, Institute of Social and Medical Studies specializing in research coordination and data management. Currently, she is the Project coordinator of a NIH grant focused on implementing tobacco use treatment guidelines in community health centers in Vietnam.
